Pallet courier

Can a courier take a pallet? One or two pallets across Sydney.

Yes, within limits. A courier van carries two pallet positions and 1.1 tonnes, with a pallet jack, so one or two standard pallets under 1.7 m high go across Sydney on a van rather than a truck. Over two pallets, over the weight, or with no forklift at the delivery end, it is a tailgate truck. Say the count, the weight and the access and the vehicle picks itself.

Quick answer

Can a courier take a pallet?

Yes, within limits. A courier van carries two pallet positions and 1.1 tonnes with a pallet jack, so one or two standard pallets under 1.7 m high go across Sydney on a van. Over two pallets, over the weight, or with no forklift at the delivery end, it is a tailgate truck. The run is priced from the two suburbs, the count, the weight and the access.

The limits

What can a pallet courier carry?

VehiclePalletsPayloadNeeds
Courier van21.1 tonnesA pallet jack on the van; a forklift or a dock at both ends, or a load light enough to hand off
Large van31.4 tonnesSame as the courier van with a third position and 4 m of floor
2 tonne truck41.9 tonnesA car licence still; the first vehicle with a proper deck height for a dock
6 pallet truck with tailgate63.79 tonnesThe vehicle for a site with no forklift: the tailgate takes 1,000 to 1,250 kg a pallet

Height matters as much as weight: a van's door is 1.7 m, so a pallet packed to 1.4 m with the wrap on fits, and a pallet packed to 1.8 m does not. The vehicles page has every class with deck length and payload.

When a van, when a truck

When is a van the right call, and when is it a truck?

  • One or two pallets, under 1.1 tonnes between them, a forklift or a dock at both ends: a van, priced as a metro run.
  • One pallet to a site with no forklift and no dock: a tailgate truck, because a van's pallet jack cannot lower a pallet to the ground; when a tailgate is needed.
  • One pallet to a house: a tailgate truck to the kerb, with the street checked for access; residential pallet delivery.
  • Three to six pallets, or anything heavy: a truck, or shared freight on a vehicle already heading that way for interstate.
  • The same two pallets every week to the same customer: a scheduled run rather than a van each time; how a metro run works.

Pricing

How is a one pallet delivery priced?

As a metro run: the pickup and delivery suburbs, the pallet count and the weight, the access at each end and the delivery window. The quote tool prices it in minutes with the fuel levy as its own line and a tailgate or hand unload shown up front rather than added after the driver arrives. How pallet delivery is priced explains the three parts of every quote. A quote asked for before 2pm is answered the same business day.

One pallet, priced

Two suburbs, the count, the weight and the access.

The tool prices it on a van or a truck, whichever fits, and the booking confirms the pickup day and the delivery window.

Questions about pallet couriers

Can a courier van carry a pallet?

Yes. A courier van carries two pallet positions and up to 1.1 tonnes with a pallet jack, so one or two standard pallets under 1.7 m high go across Sydney on a van.

Can a courier deliver a pallet to a house?

A van cannot lower a pallet to the ground; a delivery to a house or any site without a forklift goes on a tailgate truck to the kerb, with the street checked for access first.

How much does it cost to courier a pallet in Sydney?

It is priced as a metro run from the two suburbs, the count, the weight and the access. The quote tool prices it in minutes; the published lane rates for interstate are on the lane pages.

What is the maximum pallet height for a van?

The door is 1.7 m, so a pallet packed to 1.4 m with the wrap on fits comfortably. Taller pallets go on a truck.

Is shared freight cheaper than a courier for one pallet?

Across Sydney a van or a metro run is usually the right call; for interstate, one pallet goes on shared freight on a trailer already heading that way, 2 to 3 business days to Melbourne or Brisbane.
