Residential pallet delivery

Residential pallet delivery: kerbside, tailgate, and what to tell us.

A pallet to a home is a tailgate job to the first flat, hard ground the pallet jack can reach. The driver cannot carry a pallet up steps or across a lawn, and a truck that does not fit the street cannot deliver at all. Say what the address is like and the right truck turns up.

Quick answer

Can you deliver a pallet to a house?

Yes, on a tailgate truck, to the first flat, hard ground the pallet jack can reach: the kerb, the driveway or a level garage floor. The driver cannot take a pallet up steps, across grass or gravel or through a doorway narrower than 1165 mm. The lift takes 1,000 kg on the 2 tonne truck and 1,250 kg on the 4 tonne truck, the truck needs room to park and two metres behind it, and the street, the ground and a mobile number go on the booking.

Kerbside

What does kerbside delivery mean?

The pallet is lowered on the tailgate and moved on a hand pallet jack to the nearest flat, hard ground: the kerb, the driveway or the garage floor if it is level with the drive. A pallet jack rolls on concrete and bitumen and stops on gravel, grass, steps, gutters and steep slopes. From there the freight is yours to unpack and carry in, or you can book a hand unload where the cartons come off the pallet at the door, quoted on the carton count.

What the driver cannot do: carry a pallet up or down steps, take it through a doorway narrower than 1165 mm, cross a lawn or a gravel drive, or leave it on a slope where it can roll. None of that is attitude; it is what a hand pallet jack and one person can safely do with half a tonne.

The street and the truck

Will the truck fit my street?

The smallest tailgate truck we run is the 2 tonne truck at 6.5 m long, with a lift rated to 1,000 kg; the 4 tonne truck is longer with a 1,250 kg lift. Both need room to park and about two metres of clear ground behind the lift. A narrow street, a shared driveway, a low carport, overhanging trees, a cul-de-sac with no turning room: say which, and the booking is made on the truck that fits or the delivery is set for a point the truck can reach. Vans carry a pallet jack but no lift, so a van to a house is a hand unload, not a pallet to the ground.

What to tell us

What do I say when I book a delivery to a house?

  • The pallet weight and height, and whether it can be split into two lighter pallets if the lift rating needs it
  • The street: width, parking, a cul-de-sac, a steep driveway, a low carport or trees
  • Where it should end up: kerb, driveway or garage, and whether that ground is flat and hard
  • Who will be there, their mobile number, and the window they can take
  • Whether anything is fragile, and whether you want a hand unload at the door instead of a pallet on the ground

The proof of delivery records who received it and when, with a photo of the pallet in place on an unattended drop that was agreed on the booking. Tailgate delivery has the lift ratings and the ground rules in full.

Getting a number

Say it is a house and the tailgate is on the quote.

Two addresses, the pallet count, the weight, and the street and ground at the house. The quote prices the tailgate truck and the time on site up front, in minutes.

Questions about residential delivery

Can you deliver a pallet to my house?

Yes, on a tailgate truck to the first flat, hard ground the pallet jack can reach: the kerb, the driveway or a level garage floor. The driver cannot take a pallet up steps, across grass or gravel, or through a narrow doorway.

Will you carry it inside?

Not as a pallet. Book a hand unload and the cartons come off the pallet at the door, quoted on the carton count and needing someone there to help. Heavy single items need a forklift or a crane, not a pallet jack.

What if nobody is home?

An unattended drop can be agreed on the booking for a spot the truck can reach, with a photo of the pallet in place as the proof of delivery. Otherwise the delivery needs someone to receive it.

How heavy can a residential pallet be?

Inside the tail lift rating: 1,000 kg on the 2 tonne truck, 1,250 kg on the 4 tonne truck. Heavier loads are split before loading or need lifting equipment at the house.

Does the driver call before arriving?

Give a mobile number on the booking and the driver calls ahead on the day. The window itself is set on the booking against the hours you can take.

What does a residential delivery cost?

It is quoted on the suburbs, the pallet count and weight, the tailgate and the time at the door. The figure comes back in minutes from the quote tool with each part shown as its own line.
