Taxi truck

Taxi truck or a booked run: which do I actually need?

A taxi truck is a truck and driver on demand, charged by the hour from the moment it leaves the depot. It suits a one-off job that has to happen now. For anything repeating, a booked run priced by the job or a dedicated vehicle by the day is usually cheaper, because you are not paying for the truck's travel to you or for the hours it waits. Here is how the two compare and how to book either.

Quick answer

Taxi truck or a booked run?

A taxi truck is a truck and driver on demand, charged by the hour from the depot and back. It suits a one-off job that has to happen now. For a job with a known count and window a booked run priced by the job is cheaper, and for repeating work a dedicated vehicle by the day, week or month is cheaper again, because you are not paying for travel to you or hours waiting at a dock.

Most taxi truck jobs in Sydney are really booked runs that nobody planned: a pallet that has to be at Eastern Creek by 2pm, or a stack that has to leave the yard today. Priced as a run, with the access right on the booking, the same job costs less because the hours are not open ended.

Booking a run

How do I book a truck for today or tomorrow?

  1. Two suburbs, the count, the weight. Pickup and delivery, how many pallets, the height of the tallest, the rough weight. The vehicle is picked by positions and payload.
  2. The access at both ends. Forklift, dock, tailgate or hand unload, and the hours the gate is open. A tailgate or a hand unload is priced up front; what to tell us about access.
  3. The window. A half day window is cheaper to serve than an hour, and a booked window is what the run is sequenced to.
  4. The quote, then the booking. The tool prices the run in minutes; a quote asked for before 2pm is answered the same business day, and the booking confirms the pickup day and the window.

A truck that is yours

When is a dedicated truck and driver the answer?

When you are filling most of a vehicle anyway, when the timing has to be yours rather than a window, or when the work repeats. A truck and driver by the day carries your freight only, goes where you send it, and nothing else is loaded on it; weekly and monthly terms roll, and 3, 6 and 12 month terms are discounted. The fleet page builds the price on the spot from the vehicle, the days and the hours. For a business doing the same three drops every Tuesday, it is usually the cheapest truck on the road.

Today or tomorrow

Send the two suburbs, the count and the access.

It comes back priced as a run, on the vehicle that fits, with the window confirmed on the booking rather than the clock running from the depot.

Questions about taxi trucks

What is a taxi truck?

A truck and driver on demand, charged by the hour, usually from the time it leaves the depot until it returns, with a minimum. It suits a one-off job that has to happen now; for anything with a known count and window, a booked run is cheaper.

Do you do hourly truck hire in Sydney?

We price work as a booked run by the job, or as a dedicated vehicle by the day, week or month. Both avoid the open-ended hours of a taxi truck; a run that has to happen today is still quoted and booked the same way.

How much is a truck and driver for a day?

The fleet page builds the price from the vehicle, the days and the hours, with the fuel levy included and tolls at cost. Weekly and monthly terms roll; longer terms are discounted.

Can I get a truck today?

Send the two suburbs, the count and the access and it is quoted; a quote asked for before 2pm is answered the same business day, and the pickup day and the window are confirmed on the booking.

What is the maximum day for one driver?

Twelve hours is one driver's legal limit under the fatigue rules. A longer day is run as a relay.
