Pallets for manufacturers
Pallets for manufacturers: made to the product, delivered to the line.
A manufacturer's pallet has three jobs: fit the product coming off the line, survive the racking and the truck, and cost the right amount for a pallet that may never come back. Standard where standard works, custom where the product says so, one way where the pallet leaves for good.

Quick answer
Which pallets does a manufacturer need?
Standard 1165 grade A or B at the line, new or grade A hardwood under finished goods in racking, one way or grade C for outbound to customers who do not return pallets, custom sizes made to a drawing for product that does not fit a standard footprint, and heat treated softwood for export. One schedule set against the production plan, every grade written on the quote and the docket.
Three pallets, three jobs
Which pallet does a manufacturer need where?
| Where | Pallet | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Line side and work in progress | Standard 1165 grade A or B, or plastic where the floor is washed | Moved constantly by pallet jack and forklift; needs to be square and sound, not pretty. |
| Finished goods in racking | New or grade A hardwood, heavy duty for dense product | Sits on beams under the full weight of the finished pallet, sometimes for months. |
| Outbound to customers who do not return pallets | One way or grade C | Priced for a single trip, clean and sound, and not worth chasing afterwards. |
| Product that does not fit a standard footprint | Custom size, made to a drawing or a sample | Long, wide, round or awkward product needs a deck and bearer layout built to it, with strap points where the strapping goes. |
| Export | Heat treated and ISPM 15 marked | Stamped timber that clears quarantine; built light because freight is paid on weight. |
Custom pallets are quoted from a drawing or a sample pallet in a day; the custom pallet page lists what the drawing needs to show. Every grade is defined on the pallet guide and written on the quote.
The schedule
How are pallets delivered to a production line?
On a schedule set against the production plan, not against the stock in the yard. A weekly drop of standard pallets for the line and the racking, and custom or one way pallets ordered against the run they are for, delivered inside the receiving window on a vehicle that fits the yard. The count changes with a call the business day before.
Inbound pallets from your own suppliers pile up at a manufacturer faster than anywhere else, because raw material arrives on pallets that the finished product does not reuse. That stack is sorted into sale, core credit and clearance, in writing, and from sixty reusable pallets anywhere in Greater Sydney the pickup is free, often on the delivery run already coming to you.
- Standard, custom, one way and export from one supplier on one schedule
- Custom sizes quoted from a drawing or a sample in a day
- Grade written on the quote and the docket, checked at your dock
- Inbound empties sorted, bought, credited or cleared on the delivery run
- Finished goods freight on the same account, shared or dedicated
Cost
What does the pallet add to the cost of the product?
Divide the pallet price by the units on it. A one way pallet under 48 cartons is a few cents a carton; a custom pallet under one machine is a line on the machine's price. The mistake is the other way round: a grade A pallet under product shipped to a customer who throws it in a skip is money in the skip, and a one way pallet under finished goods in racking is a pallet that fails on the beam.
Published from-prices for the standard grades are on the prices page. Pallet weight matters for export and for payload on small trucks; which pallets are safe in racking matters for the finished goods store.
Getting a number
Send the product dimensions and last month's pallet count.
Say what comes off the line, what goes into racking, what leaves for good and what needs a custom size. The schedule comes back priced on the volume with each grade in writing, the same business day when you ask before 2pm.
Questions from manufacturers
Can you make pallets to our product size?
Yes. Custom pallets are made to a drawing or a sample pallet: deck size, bearer layout, entry points and strap points. Quoted in a day from the drawing.
Should finished goods go out on one way pallets?
If the customer does not return pallets, yes: a one way or grade C pallet is priced for a single trip. If the goods sit in your racking first, they go up on new or grade A stock and move to one way at despatch only if the handling is worth it.
Do you supply heat treated pallets for export?
Yes. Heat treated and ISPM 15 stamped softwood, built light because freight is paid on weight. Say the destination and the load and the quote names the pallet.
What do we do with the pallets our raw material arrives on?
Sort them into sound, repairable and broken, and send a photo and a count. The written offer shows the sale, the core credit and the clearance. From sixty reusable pallets anywhere in Greater Sydney the pickup is free.
Can deliveries follow our production plan?
Yes. A weekly drop for the line and the racking, with custom and one way pallets ordered against the run they are for, inside the receiving window. Change the count with a call the business day before.
Can we get standard and plastic pallets on the same order?
Yes. One schedule, one docket, every grade and type written on it.
