Operations consultancy / Warehouse layout and configuration

Warehouse layout and configuration

The site was laid out for a business you no longer run.

What does the work involve?

  • Travel and congestion measured against your real pick profile, not a generic one.
  • Concept layouts and process flows built around how the stock actually moves.
  • Storage configurations compared on capacity, pick rate, safety and cost.

What do you get?

  • Concept layouts with the trade offs stated.
  • The pick and travel impact of each one, in figures.
  • A supplier brief if the change needs racking or equipment.

Who does it suit?

Sites where picking travel feels high, aisles congest, or the stock profile has shifted well away from the original layout.

Who is it not for?

Structural engineering, a fit-out contractor or a lease negotiation; the work ends at a layout you can build against, with the supplier quotes compared.

How long does it take?

Concept layouts inside three weeks of the site day; the supplier-ready drawings follow once you choose one.

What do we need from you?

Missing some of this is normal and is not a reason to wait. Send what exists and we will tell you what the work can and cannot conclude before anyone commits.

  • A current site plan, even a rough one.
  • Pick line data for a representative period, so travel is measured rather than estimated.
  • Your stock profile by velocity and by size.

What does it cost?

Scoped project. Scope depends on the site size and whether the work stops at concept layouts or carries through to a supplier brief and implementation support.

How does 360 work?

A consultant delivers the work and is accountable for the content. Findings come from the data you supply and what we observe inside the agreed scope, and estimated benefits are opportunities to test rather than guaranteed savings. Where a recommendation could lead to 360 earning from supply, we say so in the report so you can compare it against the market. Full terms are on the purchase terms page.

Questions

Is this structural engineering?

No. Layout and flow are operational and conceptual. Structural design, load ratings and certification are done by qualified engineers, which we coordinate.

Do we have to stop picking for the measurement?

No. The site day is walked around the operation while it runs, because the queues, the double handling and the workarounds only show when the work is moving. We need about an hour each with the people who run it, not a shutdown.

Do you need a CAD drawing?

No. A rough site plan with the dimensions, the columns and the doors is enough to start. The pick line data is what the layout is built on; the drawing is the frame it sits in.

Can the layout change in stages?

Usually it has to, because the site keeps shipping. The concept layouts come with a sequence: which zone moves first, what it releases, and what each stage needs from the racking supplier.

Do you travel outside Sydney?

Site days run in person. Travel is included for Greater Sydney, the Illawarra, the Central Coast and Newcastle; anywhere else in Australia or New Zealand the travel is quoted at cost before you commit, and the desk work is done remotely either way.
