Operations consultancy / Racking and storage planning

Racking and storage planning

A racking supplier has quoted you and you have no independent way to judge it.

What does the work involve?

  • Operational requirements written down first: pallet profile, weights, throughput, access, growth.
  • Conceptual racking options compared on capacity, selectivity, cost and what they lock you into.
  • Supplier briefs that let quotes be compared like for like.

What do you get?

  • A requirement document you own.
  • Conceptual options with the trade offs.
  • A brief suppliers can quote against, and help reading what comes back.

Who does it suit?

Anyone about to spend on racking, or inheriting a site where the racking does not suit the stock.

Who is it not for?

A supplier to sell or install racking; 360 does not sell it, and the engineering certificate stays with the supplier who does.

How long does it take?

Two to three weeks from the stock profile arriving to the specification; the supplier lead times are quoted separately.

What do we need from you?

Missing some of this is normal and is not a reason to wait. Send what exists and we will tell you what the work can and cannot conclude before anyone commits.

  • Pallet profile: footprints, weights and heights, including the exceptions.
  • Throughput and how many pallets move in and out on a normal and a peak day.
  • Any quotes you have already received, so they can be compared like for like.

What does it cost?

Scoped project. Independent of any supplier, because 360 does not sell racking.

How does 360 work?

A consultant delivers the work and is accountable for the content. Findings come from the data you supply and what we observe inside the agreed scope, and estimated benefits are opportunities to test rather than guaranteed savings. Where a recommendation could lead to 360 earning from supply, we say so in the report so you can compare it against the market. Full terms are on the purchase terms page.

Questions

Do you sell racking?

No. Structural design, load ratings and certification are done by qualified engineers and suppliers, which we coordinate. That keeps the advice independent of who supplies it.

Can you check a quote we already have?

Yes, and that is the most common starting point. The quote is checked against the pallet profile, the throughput and the aisle and equipment it assumes, and compared with at least one other quote on the same basis so you are not choosing on price alone.

What about the load ratings and the engineering certificate?

They stay with the supplier that designs and installs the racking, as the page says. The review checks that the rating matches the heaviest pallet you actually run, including the exceptions, before the order is placed.

Does second hand racking make sense?

Sometimes. It needs a current load rating, matching components and a supplier willing to certify the install. The review states when it is worth it and when the saving disappears in the install and the certification.

What if the racking we have does not suit the stock?

That is the other half of the work: a site inherited with racking built for a different stock profile. The review measures what the stock needs now and states what to keep, what to reconfigure and what to replace.
