Operations consultancy / Focused problem solving

Focused problem solving

One thing keeps going wrong and the business has stopped expecting it to be fixed.

What does the work involve?

  • One problem defined precisely, which is most of the work.
  • The evidence reviewed rather than the opinions collected.
  • Likely root causes separated from symptoms.

What do you get?

  • A written problem definition.
  • Likely root causes with the evidence behind each.
  • Practical actions with owners.

Who does it suit?

A recurring issue that has survived two or three attempts to fix it.

Who is it not for?

A problem nobody has tried to fix yet, or one that needs a day on site to even see; those start with the operational review.

How long does it take?

One session, the written plan inside 2 business days.

What do we need from you?

Missing some of this is normal and is not a reason to wait. Send what exists and we will tell you what the work can and cannot conclude before anyone commits.

  • A written description of the problem, even a paragraph.
  • Whatever data you have on how often it happens and what it costs.
  • The people who see it happen, in the session.

What does it cost?

$1,200 plus GST for the session, with the written plan inside 2 business days. Full refund any time before the session is held.

How does 360 work?

A consultant delivers the work and is accountable for the content. Findings come from the data you supply and what we observe inside the agreed scope, and estimated benefits are opportunities to test rather than guaranteed savings. Where a recommendation could lead to 360 earning from supply, we say so in the report so you can compare it against the market. Full terms are on the purchase terms page.

Questions

How long is the session?

One session, with the written plan inside 2 business days.

Can the session be done remotely?

Yes, when the problem can be seen in the data and the people who see it happen can join the call. A problem that only shows on the floor needs a site day and starts with the operational review, as the page says.

What if the problem turns out to be bigger than one session?

The plan says so. It states what the session found, what can be fixed now and what needs a scoped piece of work, with the size of that work stated so you can decide.

Who should be in it?

The people who see the problem happen, which is rarely the people who manage it. Three or four people is the usual room; more than that and the session turns into a meeting.

Why a refund before the session?

Because the session only works if the right people turn up with the data, and plans change. If the day cannot go ahead, the fee comes back in full and the session is rebooked when it can.
