The Problem
Freight gets bought lane by lane, not as a network.
A carrier is chosen once, for one lane, under time pressure, and stays there long after the rate stops being competitive or the service starts slipping. Multiply that across a dozen lanes and nobody has a clear picture of what the network actually costs or where it's underperforming.
